Course Description
Building upon the foundations introduced in Group KAP Module 1, Module 2 focuses on developing the clinical, relational, and logistical competencies needed to skillfully facilitate group ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. As group KAP becomes more widely implemented, facilitators must understand not only how to support participants during non-ordinary states of consciousness (NOSC) experiences, but also how to prepare and stabilize the group before, during, and after this process.
This module offers practical and in-depth training in the essential components of group preparation, including multimodal approaches to readying participants for NOSC work, cultivating safety, establishing clear expectations, and supporting both clients’ and clinicians’ self-care. Participants will explore the principles of group-as-a-whole interventions, different schools of group facilitation, and the nuances of determining which approaches are most compatible with ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.
The course further examines how group containers function within psychedelic and NOSC spaces, including unique challenges, such as intensification of transference dynamics, emotional activation, and interpersonal complexities that may arise within or between participants. Facilitators will learn strategies for responding to difficult or destabilizing moments during group NOSC sessions, attending to countertransference, and strengthening their internal leadership grounding.
Collaboration among co-facilitators is emphasized as a core competency for effective group KAP. Participants will learn how to create a cohesive leadership team, apply preparation and integration techniques as a team, and manage the interpersonal processes, projections, and roles that naturally emerge among co-leaders.
Teachings are appropriate for healthcare professionals as well as the general public. Healthcare professionals will be able to apply these skills to enhance their clinical work in group KAP and other NOSC-oriented group settings. Attending Group KAP Training Module 1 is a pre-requisite.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe multimodal preparation and integration strategies for supporting participants before and after group NOSC experiences.
- Explain group-as-a-whole interventions and distinguish between different group therapy models relevant to group KAP.
- Discuss how the group container functions in NOSC and psychedelic settings and identify strategies for strengthening it.
- Apply techniques to respond effectively to challenging or destabilizing situations during group KAP sessions.
- Explain principles of effective co-leadership and describe methods for building collaborative functioning among group KAP facilitators.
